Raised in Detroit, MI, writer/director Lawrence Lamont fell in love with storytelling at a young age. Rummaging through his Aunt’s tape collection and locking himself in a room with a VCR because his Aunt crammed several movies on one tape, the endings of some movies would get cut off, forcing Lamont to create his own. Thus, a filmmaker was born.

Lamont has directed music videos for top-level acts, including Big Sean’s VMA-nominated IDFWU in 2014, which starred Kanye West, and VMA-winning LIGHT in 2017. He has also collaborated on videos with J. Cole and Jhene Aiko. Lamont’s narrative and hyper-stylistic approach have positioned him to partner with Big Sean, creating a production company, where the two are developing television and film projects.

Most recently, Lawrence directed a powerful film for his hometown team, the Detroit Pistons and multiple episodes on Issa Rae’s HBO comedy Rap Sh!t.  He has been tapped by Sony for his first feature film, The Jungles, starring Keke Palmer and is in production with Isaa Rae as an Executive Producer.
