Raised in Detroit, MI, writer/director Lawrence Lamont fell in love with storytelling at a young age. Rummaging through his Aunt’s tape collection and locking himself in a room with a VCR, Lamont became fascinated with filmmaking by watching the works of Spike Lee, Stanley Kubrick, Martin Scorsese, and many others. Because his Aunt crammed movies on tapes, the endings of some movies would get cut off, forcing Lamont to create his own.
From there, Lamont began creating his own stories and his love for storytelling grew even more when after high school he began directing short films, local commercials, and music videos. To date, Lamont has directed numerous music videos for top-level acts, including Big Sean’s VMA-nominated IDFWU in 2014 which starred Kanye West and VMA-winning LIGHT in 2017. He has also collaborated on videos with J. Cole and Jhene Aiko. Lamont’s narrative and hyper-stylistic approach to his videos have positioned him to partner with Big Sean, creating a production company, where the two are developing television and film projects.
